BlizzCon ‘07 : Northrend Panel (summary)

The BlizzCon is a huge event for the Blizzard staffs and games fans, but only a minority get to attend this conference, which is held in the US. Gamers from other nations only get to read the information posted on websites and forums.

I chanced upon the BlizzCon Northrend Panel on youtube, it is the entire length of the presentation, and most of the part of the Q&A session. The panel took around 60 minutes, so if you have the time to watch and wanted feel the awe with the fans out there, watch this.

If you do not want to watch the whole presentation, you can read this report I did. It is a summarised version of the presentation in text format.

WoW : Wrath of the Lich King, Hero Class.

I hope many of the World of Warcraft fans are very excited by the upcoming expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

One of the main features in this expansion is the introduction of Hero Classes.

The first Hero Classes to be introduced in Wrath of the Lich King is the Death Knight. As we know that the death knight is a powerful user of necromantic skills. One of the famous Death Knight in the Warcraft universe is Arthas. Arthas was a paladin who became a death knight and terrorised Azeroth and Northrend, eventually fused with the spirit of Nel’zhul and became the Lich King.

So you might be wondering how to we play the Death Knight? Detailed information have not been released by Blizzard yet, but you will need to meet certain criteria before this Hero Class is unlocked. Once unlocked, you are able to create a new character under the Death Knight class.

As the name suggested, it sounds like a Warrior class, but definitely more cool.

These are some characteristics of the Death Knight class:

  1. It can fulfill either the DPS build or the tanking build.
  2. Able to dual-weld weapons or handle a single 2H weapon. Shield is not necessary. =)
  3. Plate armour (how to tank with a mail armour?)
  4. Different from Warriors as Death Knights are more casting oriented, with summoning spells, etc.
  5. Unlocked through specified quests and interaction with Arthas.
  6. Start off at relatively high level, 55 to 70 (unconfirmed yet)
  7. Use the Rune Resource System, which runes are carved on the weapons.
  8. Runes belongs to the following 3 schools, Blood, Frost and Unholy.

Currently, details of classes that are able to unlock the Death Knight is unavailable, but both Horde and Alliance are able to unlock this class.

The expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is already available for public testing during the BlizzCon. Hence it is already at a playable stage where tweaks and balances need to be sorted out before releasing it to the public with a boom. The release date of Wrath of the Lich King has not been announced, but the earliest we can deduced might be early next year.

It will be an exciting year 2008, with Starcraft II and Wrath of the Lich King imminent for release. Check out GameBlog for more update on Wrath of the Lich King.

WoW 2nd expansion incoming.

Blizzard Entertainment Logo

While all of us are speculating the next announcement by Blizzard on another game release, someone has already uncovered it using the legal way. Through the United States Patent and Trademark Office, “Wrath of the Lich King” has been issued to Blizzard Entertainment, Inc as a registered trademark.

The release of the 2nd expansion to the world’s most popular MMORPG seems imminent in 1 year or 2 years’ time. Many might think that the release of Burning Crusade is too long of a wait. However, avid fans are able to wait for it.

The announcement of the new game or expansion (most likely) will be probably held at the upcoming BlizzCon, which is only about 24 hours away from now.

Do check back GameBlog for the latest update on this new expansion (if any).

e3 2007: New upcoming World of Warcraft features

World of Warcraft : Burning Crusade

It is good to see that Blizzard actually knows what their customers need. The monthly subscription is worth to pay when new contents and features keep coming up.

The lack of voice communication has been an issue to gamers since the launch of the game. Typing messages while instancing is a hassle, it will become worse if you are in a raid of 10 or 25 men. You will see the screen flooding with words. So gamers resort to finding alternatives, such as Ventrilo, for guild raids.

Blizzard has announced that there will be a voice communication soon. No more Skype and Ventrilo needed. The upcoming voice system will mute the gameplay sound and music while you hear the voice messages.

Blizzard will implement the guild bank also, so you can cut down on having alternate characters level 1 characters as your bank.

Last but not least, Blizzard is opening up a new 10 man raid instance in Ghostland, the home of the blood elves. There is no attunement or keyed needed. This is to allow gamers on tight schedules to play raids more often. The new raid instance is Zul’Aman. Read on for more information on the new raid.

The big news is the new Zul’Aman area, an outdoor dungeon in the mid-level Ghostlands area near the blood elves’ homeland. The dungeon is inhabited by the forest trolls who first made their debut in Blizzard’s real-time strategy game Warcraft II. (”Trolls love the outdoors,” explains vice president of game design Rob Pardo.) The vast outdoor zone consists of ruined stone temples that reflect the trolls’ shamanic beliefs growing through thick forests of trees. According to the story that Blizzard has penned for the area, Zul’Aman is the home of the troll warriors led by Zul’jin (a character from Warcraft II) and has become a stronghold from which the trolls have begun attacking the blood elves, thanks to a newfound power that a troll witch doctor has discovered. Apparently, this powerful troll spiritualist has somehow managed to steal away the essences of four troll animal gods and confer them to four mighty troll warriors. These avatars act as the early “boss” encounters for the dungeon.

Zul’Aman is a smaller raid dungeon that’s better suited for 10-character parties than the full-on 25-character raids that some of the game’s larger dungeons demand. Because the dungeon will not require any keys or attunements to enter, the dungeon seems intended to be more accessible to players on tight schedules. Much of the layout will call for methodical clearing of troll enemies who may call for help by beating on nearby war drums, which summon additional troll warriors to fight. Each of the four avatars, which have respectively been infused with the spirits of a bear god, a dragonhawk god, a lynx god, and finally, a god of evil, may also summon help, as well as assume different forms over the course of battle. Once players have defeated each avatar, they’ll eventually take on the witch doctor that started the whole mess and finally do battle with Zul’Jin himself. The final troll boss will not only be a powerful foe; he’ll also be able to draw upon the ghostly spirits of each of the four liberated animal gods and change his own shape to assume their powers.

In addition to offering challenging encounters against these mighty foes, Zul’Aman is apparently intended to encourage players to tackle it repeatedly to master its content. There will be several characters hanging around just outside the dungeon to give out quests that take place within the dungeon, including hunting for treasure and liberating four different hostages who have been taken captive by the armies of each of the four avatars. The rescue missions will apparently be timed and will yield better rewards if completed early.

The above extracts is quoted from Gamespot.

It seems like the new raid will be fun and exciting for gamers who have not take on Karazhan due to time constraint. I guess busy people can just “LFG Zul’Aman” soon.
