New Intel Core i7 965 is 50% faster than QX9770

This is a piece of GOOD news from Intel. Once again, the Core series has not disappoint any single one of us who are keeping pace with the CPU technology development.

The new Core i7, due this November, is the new series of Core series processors.

According to some reviewers who had their hands on with the upcoming Bloomfield, the new CPU runs great. But how huge improvement it is comparing to today’s top dog?

In a recent document sent to partners, Intel pointed out that when comparing Core i7-965 to a QX9770, we can get 52% more 3D gaming performance, 38% more rendering performance and 41% more movie editing and conversion performance. (Core i7-965 platform:  X58, DDR3 3G, Discrete VGA card, QX9770 platform unknown.)

Yes the numbers are quite vague, but it is directly coming from Intel, compare to a more expansive product, we can’t expect more. (QX9770>1450USD, Core i7-965=999USD)

AMD/ATi Radeon HD3870X2 Review Roundup

AMD/ATi Radeon Logo

The first dual-core AMD/ATi graphics card has arrived on shore. Gamers have been looking forward to this new graphics card as it is 2 HD3870 combined onto one PCB, Crossfiring on 1 graphic card. This is the first dual core graphics card since the NVIDIA GeForce 7950×2 in 2006.

HD3870×2 is made up of 2 RV670 graphics chip used in HD3850 and HD3870 graphics card.

There are several reviews going around the net regarding this highly anticipated graphic card.

For the reviews, I gathered that this new graphics card need a new driver to enhance its performance as well as providing CrossFireX support to Crossfire 2 or more HD3870×2 for godly performance. Currently, HD3870×2 is on par with CrossFire HD3870 but slightly behind NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra SLi, which is an aging graphics card, on some of the tests. We will be looking forward to the new driver release as soon as possible.

Most Realistic Game to date: Crysis

Before any words to be said. Watch this trailer first.

Crysis, published by EA Games has been one of the most anticipated First Person Shooting game to date. The ultra-realistic graphics and gameplay, make this game one of the best games of the year 2007.

From the makers of Far Cry, using the new CryENGINE 2 graphics technology that runs on the advanced DirectX 10 platform. Crysis, is the most advanced graphical game made in the year 2007. The sad thing is, DirectX 10 only runs on Windows Vista, which is often ignored by gamers. Microsoft has announced that DirectX 10 is exclusively on Windows Vista, therefore, Windows XP gamers will have to play with DirectX 9.

Rating given to Crysis:

Gamespot: 9.5
IGN: 9.4

Due to the graphical intensity of this game, Gamespot Review has gave this hilarious ‘negative’ comment: ” Will laugh at every CPU and GPU thrown at it”

It’s true to the present supply of graphics card and processors. The recommended specification for the game is as follows:

OS – Windows XP / Vista
Processor – Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Memory – 2.0 GB RAM
GPU – NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

From IGN.
Even with the recommended specification, at ‘Very High Quality’, the game is beyond playable at 15 FPS, on a GeForce 8800 GTX and Intel Core 2 x6800.

(from Anandtech)

As you can see, at ‘Medium’ Setting, the latest graphics card from AMD, barely make through the acceptable 30FPS with HD3870.

What can we expect from games in 2008?

Not all developers will make games that ordinary computers can’t run. What we can expect is, the next generation graphics and processors technology that will overcome the upcoming new graphic engine by whichever developers. With Phenom, Core 2 Duo E8000 series and the GeForce 9000 series impending, all we can do is to wait for them to come and thus play these games with more smoothness.
