Thousands of people lined up and slept in the corridors of the street in US, waiting for the day to start and get their dream console, the Sony PlayStation 3.
PlayStation 3 (PS3) is the second next generation console released, over a year after the release of Xbox 360. Nintendo Wii will be released soon too. While Xbox 360 has already scooped up the majority of the next generation consoles, Sony and Nintendo is not going to let fate decide itself.
The PlayStation 3, powered by multi-core Cell Processor, nVidia Reality Synthesizer and high definition Blu-ray drive. The selling price? US$599 for the 60Gb model, while US$499 for the 20Gb model. Reports show that Sony is suffering heavy losses in the sale of PlayStation 3. The manufacturing cost of the lower end PS3 is US$806 - Sony suffers a loss of US$307 per unit. The higher end model, with Wi-Fi connectivity and memory card slots, make Sony loses US$240 per unit.
As the PS3 looks more like a powerful supercomputer in the consumer market, the components of the console doesn’t come cheap. The Cell processor from IBM costs US$89, the RSX graphics chip from nVidia costs US$129 and the Blu-ray drive costs US$125.
Microsoft too, suffered loss from the sale of Xbox 360 last year. Microsoft lost US$126 per unit. Console makers usually lose money when selling their consoles, but earn from the sale of accessories and games. With a single blu-ray discs costs around US$25, PS3 games may not come cheap. However, the enjoyment factor may override the burning pockets of gamers around the world.

In case for those who still don’t know, Sony released PS3 few days ago. The release does not come with the many new games. However, blockbuster games like Final Fantasy XIII will be release next year. Good news is, PS3 can play Final Fantasy XII.
20GB PS3 costs US$499, while the 60GB model costs $599. Asia countries like Singapore still does not have local distribution of PS3, therefore the import version costs skyscraper price. In Singapore, the 60GB model costs SG$1599! If the PS3 spoil, there goes the thousands buck.
Last Final Fantasy sequel in PS2, Final Fantasy XII still boosts strong characters and graphics.

The voice overs, whether it is the English or the Japanese are great. There goes the “Haha” that fills with ambigious meaning (sarcastic or real?). The in game graphics engine is as awesome as the CGI scenes. The transition is unnoticeable, and sometimes you might just admire the graphics with your jaws drop.
FFXII comes with the real time battle system, that means that you will no longer bumps onto random encounters and battle on. In FFXII, you can see your enemies while you are exploring around. Now you can avoid your enemies as and when you want or flank them hard. However, you will not see gigantic size monster appearing in front of you. The new introduction, Gambits are sets of instructions for the player’s AI party. It offers more powerful and alternatives to play the game with the real time system. Gambits are earned through each stages of the game, there will be better Gambits that will definitely help you out while you think, for example, heal dying allies first.
FFXII introduces a new skills system, called License. The new system replaced the FFX’s Sphere Grid System. This new system requires players to buy licenses to use items, spells or weapons. The downside of it, players have to rely on FAQs and mind games in order to buy the best licenses because the range of licenses revealed to the players are limited until you open some to reveal to the others.
FFXII will still be a great game. PS2 fans do not need to ditch their PS2 now for the soon to release PS3. Gamespot rated FFXII 9.0. The FAQ is available in GameFAQs.
